Energy estimation
Wind potential estimation and the siting of a Wind Farm are carried out through the simulation of wind flow in the area under consideration. The simulation is based on data from meteorological stations and digitised orography and terrain data.
Advanced Computational Tools Are Used To:
- Identify areas with exploitable wind potential at an early stage and with a high degree of reliability, reducing financial risks.
- Guide the optimal placement of meteorological stations and wind turbines.
- Optimise the number and efficiency of measurement stations.
Two Main Categories of Software Are Used:
- WAsP-based software, such as WindPRO (EMD, Germany), which is ideal for preliminary studies due to its speed and low cost.
- Advanced CFD tools, which use fluid dynamics equations to provide greater accuracy, although they require more time and specialised expertise.
This software runs on a high-resolution grid (20 m), using orographic and surface roughness data as inputs.
Deliverables:
- Wind speed, direction, turbulence, and energy production data for wind farms.
- Solar irradiation and energy production data for photovoltaic parks.
